Section 6.10 Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems

Subsection 6.10.1. General

Testing and maintenance

6.10.1.1. (1) This Section applies to the testing and maintenance of integrated fire protection and life safety systems that are

(a) installed on or after January 1, 2020, and
(b) required by the Building Code to be verified in conformance with CAN/ULC-S1001, “Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems”.

(2) Interconnections between fire protection and life safety systems shall be tested and maintained in conformance with CAN/ULC-S1001, “Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems”.

(3) Records of integrated tests shall be made and retained in accordance with Subsection 1.1.2.

(4) The one year integrated test required by CAN/ULC-S1001, “Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems” in Sentence (2) is waived for a fire protection and life safety system installed before January 1, 2026.

Obligation to ensure compliance

6.10.1.2. (1) The owner shall ensure that any person who performs the testing and maintenance of fire alarm system components that interconnect with other fire protection and life safety systems required under Article 6.10.1.1. is in compliance with the requirements of either

(a) Clause 1.2.1.2.(1)(a) of Division C, or
(b) Sentence 1.2.1.2.(2) of Division C.
